Leaky cable systems have four major drawbacks. What is it?

    Answer

    (i) As the coal face moves forward 100 m a day as the coal is dug, the leaky cable must continue to stretch forward. This requires a certain amount of money and is not always available at all times.

(ii) The second problem is that the radial distance that the signal can reach from the leaky cable is typically 20 m.Therefore, it may become a source of interference for other equipment in the mine.

(iv) Finally, the system requires a constant power supply.Since the signal must be amplified from time to time as the length of the cable increases, these line amplifiers require a power supply.
