Embedded system devices often require a connection with Ethernet. With the advancement in the area of Internet of Things, the demand for Ethernet connection within an embedded system has increased manifold. Embedded systems often need to incorporate USB-to-LAN functionality. Special purpose digital ICs and controllers are used in such embedded systems for USB–to-LAN conversion.
What is AX88179QF?
The AX88179 is regarded as the world’s first USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Controller. The AX88179 houses USB 3.0 PHY and 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet MAC/PHY in a single device package. The AX88179 is manufactured by ASIX Electronics Corporation. The AX88179 offers a very compact form factor and plug-and-play functionality. These features allow the embedded engineers to take full advantage of speed of USB 3.0 SuperSpeed technology.
Any embedded system designed around a USB host microcontroller can interface with the AX88179 using a twisted pair network connection. The AX88179 needs only a 25MHz oscillator to drive the USB and the Ethernet.
Pin Configuration
The AX88179 is housed in QNF-68 package and has total of 68 pins. These 68 pins belong to the following group types:
