    What is RPM871-E4A?

    The RPM871 is an infrared communication module. The RPM871 is designed for IrDA Ver. 1.2. The RPM871 is suitable for low power application. It is package of infrared LED as transmitter, PIN photo diode as receiver and inbuilt amplifier which are integrated into one device. The RPM871 features power down function and low current consumption at stand-by mode. It is used for wireless communication. It is a perfect for mobile devices and PDAs because of its ultra-small size.

    WHERE TO USE RPM871-E4A?

    RPM871 is an infrared communication module for IrDA Ver. 1.2 (Low Power). Infrared data communication is playing an important role in wireless data communication due to the popularity of laptop computers, personal digital assistants (PDAs), digital cameras, mobile telephones, pagers, and other devices. Among existing uses or likely possibilities are

    • Sending a document from your notebook computer to a printer
    • Exchanging business cards between handheld PCs
    • Coordinating schedules and telephone books between your desktop and notebook computers
    • Sending faxes from your notebook computer to a distant fax machine through a public telephone
    • Digital cameras that can beam images into your computer

    Circuit diagram of RPM871-E4A is shown in Fig.3. As shown in Fig.3 small capacitor (1µF, tantalum or ceramic is recommended) should be connected between VCC and GND to prevent infection. Power-down Control Terminal is a CMOS Logic Level Input. When PWDOWN is High it will stop receiving circuit. RXD (Receiving Data Output) Terminal is CMOS Logic Level Output.
