    Why pyroelectric sensors?

    Answer

The polarization of ferroelectrics (charge per unit area) is related to temperature. When the infrared radiation is irradiated onto the surface of the ferroelectric sheet which has been polarized, the temperature of the sheet is raised, the polarization thereof is lowered, and the surface charge is reduced, which is equivalent to releasing a part of the electric charge, so it is called a pyroelectric type sensor.
